Without using silver polish, what is a good way to remove tarnish from a silver necklace?

Baking soda may work. It works well with gold, but I have used it on silver and it seemed to work well. Just put the jewelery in a warm bowl of water and stir in some baking soda. That should remove the tarnishing and make it shine.
