I feel like such a coward?

A 15 year old girl I know was on the run from her family.When I asked why,she said her real dad d her and her mother and step father beat her.The police came looking for her here at my apartment because she and my daughter are best friends I tried to explain to them what her life was like with both sets of parents they really didn't seem to care...When I finally heard from the girl I urged her to turn herself in because shed been in the news and fliers were being put out to the public and I felt she might end up in worse trouble if she didn't.....I keep hearing it was the right thing to do but why does it feel so HORRIBLE,I feel as if Ive fed her to the wolves and they wont give me any info. What should I do?
